Abstract

This lecture on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Notes from Underground, delivered at Lawrence University on February 22, 2002, was designed for students and faculty in the college's Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, Rebecca Epstein Matveyev, is associate professor of Russian at Lawrence. Professor Matveyev holds the Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and is the 1999 winner of Lawrence's Young Teacher award.
