Abstract

This lecture on Akira Kurosawa’s film, Rashomon, delivered at Lawrence University on October 16, 2009, was designed for students and faculty in the college’s Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, Brenda Robb Jenike, is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Lawrence. Professor Jenike holds the Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles; her scholarship focuses on Japanese society and culture, and she has researched how different cultures care for the elderly.
