Abstract
This lecture on Plato’s Republic, delivered at Lawrence University on September 28, 2009, was designed for students and faculty in the college’s Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, John Dreher, is Lee Claflin-Robert S. Ingraham Professor of Philosophy at Lawrence. Professor Dreher holds the Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and is a past director of the Freshman Studies program.
