Abstract
Heitor Villa-Lobos was by far the greatest composer that Brazil has ever produced. He was the embodiment of the entire Brazilian Nationalist Movement in art. But in order to understand the significance of this movement and of his contributions to it, first it is necessary to examine the social events which gave rise to Nationalism in Brazil.
