Abstract
This lecture on the Wriston Art Center's exhibition Transforming Gender/Picturing Difference, delivered at Lawrence University on March 14, 2001, was designed for students and faculty in the college's Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, Frank Lewis, is curator of Lawrence University's Wriston Art Center Art Gallery. Lewis holds the M.A. from the University of Chicago where he is pursuing his Ph.D. He is a specialist in modern art and contemporary theory and criticism and has been editor of arts magazines such as Art Muscle, Metalsmith, and The New Art Examiner.
