Abstract
This lecture on Native Guard, by Natasha Trethewey, was recorded in September 2022. The lecture was designed for students and faculty in the First-Year Studies program. This program, a multidisciplinary introduction to liberal learning, has been a cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum since 1945.
The lecturer, Austin Segrest, teaches classes in poetry writing and literature, as well as First-Year Studies. He is the author of the poetry collection, Door to Remain (UNT Press, 2022), winner of the Vassar Miller Poetry Prize. His poetry can be found in POETRY, Ploughshares, The Threepenny Review, The Yale Review, Ecotone, The Common, New England Review, and many other journals. His poetry criticism appears in APR, Poetry Northwest, 32 Poems, Southern Humanities Review, and Pleiades.
