Abstract
This lecture on Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo's Poor Economics was recorded in February 2022. The lecture was designed for students and faculty in the First-Year Studies program. This program, a multidisciplinary introduction to liberal learning, has been a cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum since 1945.
The lecturer, Dylan Fitz, is Associate Professor of Economics at Lawrence. He is a specialist in development economics, and his current research evaluates the effectiveness of social programs, the causes of poverty, and the importance of risk and learning in technology adoption. Professor Fitz earned a bachelor's degree in politics at Princeton University with certificates in Latin American studies and political economy. He also earned a master's and doctorate in agricultural and applied economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Professor Fitz joined the Lawrence faculty in 2017, after spending four years in the economics department at Davidson College.
