Abstract
This lecture on Stanley Milgram's Obedience to Authority, delivered at Lawrence University on January 5, 2007, was designed for students and faculty in the college's Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, Peter Glick, is Professor of Psychology at Lawrence. Glick serves on the editorial boards of four professional journals, including recent appointments to the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and Psychology of Women Quarterly. He spent two weeks this past year as a visiting “outstanding psychologist” at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and has been invited to give talks at universities and conferences across the United States, as well as in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Chile.
