Artist Statement
The principal focus of my work is character design, illustration, and animation. I aim to create art with a unique and whimsical sensibility as I find myself drawn to and intrigued by strange forms and creatures. It is my hope to instill a sense of excitement and wonder in my viewers through usage of bright colors, intriguing environments, and bizarre funny creatures and stories.
In this animated short titled Colorful World, I aim to explore my experiences with synesthesia, a condition which causes those affected to experience multiple of the five senses at once. In my particular case, I hear colors when I hear sound. A large body of my art also features dragons, as I find them to be a compelling subject, and in the case of this short, the dragons represent people with synesthesia. Flashes of color also appear onscreen in various scenes to try to simulate what it is like to “hear color”, or otherwise highlight the experience of synesthesia visually. Since to some it may seem like an almost fantastical concept, I not only chose to include dragons as they are important to me, but as they are fantastical creatures themselves.
