Artist Statement
Together, this collection of work serves to honor the design of sport throughout history and imagine its innovation into the future. Sport, art and design have all been passions in my life not only as separate disciplines but for how they reinvent one another. This project is a visual expression of this happening. To showcase it I’ve re-designed sculptural works that are historic in both sport and art culture. What you’re currently viewing is the start of that journey and pieces created with inspiration from the Olympiad era or 13th century BC. I chose this time period for its prominence in the deep exploration of both sport and the arts. From this exploration they brought us the iconic statue: Discobolus of Myron. Demonstrating the relationship between the two disciplines so well, the statue is known as a symbol for the human design’s relationship with sport. Its impressive precision and emotional depiction portray a state of perfect equilibrium between focus and movement. It also looks pretty awesome accompanied with a suit of armor. In seriousness though, my work is about that excitement we get, viewing the ways physical design can innovate human capability. In the Olympia era you’re viewing now, a total of 3,600 works have been created all individually varying based off the rarity of the garments and accessories its attributed. The works will be available to the public as NFT’s (digital assets) to be collected, sold, traded and customized. By offering full ownership and the option of customization with my work I hope it can foster the same feeling of innovation and creation I had when coming up with this project. The profits of the work will in turn be used to innovate sport where it’s needed most, a decision made by the community this project will cultivate.
