Artist Statement
My work explores the female power fantasy – the reclamation of the stereotypically “masculine” strength, aggression, rage, and revenge. In the art history canon, oil paintings like my own depict women as passive players or mere decoration. Inspired by Baroque and Romantic paintings, folklore and mythology, and heavy metal, I bring women to the forefront of my dark narratives as complex protagonists portrayed with the power and roles usually reserved for men in these genres.
