Artist Statement

This installation tackles the conflicting relationship between form and function by placing wheel-thrown objects on unfinished furniture. Instead of plates, mugs, or bowls, these variations on conical and spherical objects form a new relationship with tables and stools that have been removed from their functional context.

In several of these series, these forms also employ shape, color, size, and spatial proximity to explore dichotomies of natural and man-made landscapes such as mountain ranges, skylines, ocean floors and neighborhoods.

In addition to the above qualities, gesture and motion are used to explore human emotion through abstract forms within the installation.
