Artist Statement

I believe identity encompasses more than the skin on our bones. It goes beyond the words we speak, or the environment in which we live. It is our connection to this physical world, and every living thing.

If energy cannot be created nor destroyed then every living thing is a carrier of this energy. Provocatively, in every Being this current is carried and possessed differently.

I was introduced to the concept of humans as energy Beings at a young age. My mother exposed me to functional medicine, holistic practices, Reiki, QiGong, Therapeutic Touch and other forms of energy healing and medicine. Exposure to these energy-healing practices introduced me to a worldview with a different way to read and understand people.

For this series, I had my model move and pose with sheer fabric in three different natural landscapes in Northern Peninsula of Wisconsin. The connection of the body to the fabric displays different movements that project his own pathway for energy. By observing the fluid relationship between the body and the fabric, I believe you can sense more than the sheer movement. You can sense the organic dynamic connection of the energy moving from one form to another. In addition, I believe the subject’s energy is manipulated and influenced by each unique environment he is in. This connection between the body, fabric, and landscape symbolizes the subjects' presence within this world; his sheer identity.
