Artist Statement

My life has changed greatly over the past four years. I was married three years ago and we now have a beautiful one and a half year old daughter and another daughter currently on the way. I specifically paint from photographs that have personal meanings for me because I get a sense of reliving those specific memories. So far I have painted many pictures of my daughter and of other family members. I also have taken my own photographs while on family trips. Family is one of the most important things in my life and my goal is to find a creative way to express how I feel about the overall concept of family.

For my current exhibition, I would like to create a family portrait wall from the paintings I produce. I will be making copies of my favorite photographs by using watercolor paint and drawing with charcoal or graphite directly on top. I enjoy using mixed media in my work. I continually discover new ways of how to pull out the personal meanings, personality, and the individual memories from each piece. I have been experimenting more directly with color and the use of negative space.

My family is the strongest and most secure thing I have in my life. I am so grateful every day for their love and support.
