Artist Statement
I am fascinated by concepts that are difficult to comprehend. There are points of data which I’m used to living next to: the queer community was decimated by the AIDS epidemic, Elon Musk is the world’s wealthiest man, and firearms are the leading cause of death in children ages 1-19. Outside of a recent and visible tragedy, these statistics are allowed to exist without illustration. Facts and emotions are treated as two opposing forces, lest one influence the other. In this multimedia body of work, I break that divide with uncomfortable images that are frequently buried beneath legislation and bureaucracy: a generation of queer people lost to fearmongering and negligent administrations during the AIDS crisis, the children who are used to knowing they might get shot when they go to school, and an unfathomable amount of wealth forced into perspective and compressed into a book you can hold.
