Artist Statement

This series of works were all created in a painting app called “sketchbook” with my iPhone. I spent a lot of time with my phone. Smartphones bring many possibilities for recording life. Beyond photography and memo, painting is another thing we can do with a phone. Painting is a way for me to be mindful and release negative emotions. It also offers space for me to express excitement, feelings, and thoughts. What I see, experience, hear, and imagine are all inspirations. Painting apps make painting more available for people to discover innate abilities. The openness of abstract painting leaves more freedom to create and enables viewers to interpret, which that is why I do not have titles for these works. It is interesting to hear what different stories people see. Art can increase well-being and happiness and it belongs to everyone.
