Artist Statement

Pieces that once were intended to be complete expressions of time spent with temporarily important people, displayed in a form of physical and mental expression now remains incomplete. My work has always been a way for me to express an intimate connection between the person/ people close to me at any given time through the creation process. While seeking assistance from close relationships to help with the creation of a piece that reflects my own introspection allowed for an intimacy and a piece that is meant for temporary feelings. Switching over to a medium that wasn’t initially planned, the painting had to remain incomplete in a way that expresses unity with the rest of the collection.

I decided to have once piece reflect each term of this year, while using the faces of poc people in the Lawrence community and that I have relationships with. One piece is complete, the second is mostly complete with a patch over the incomplete while the last piece reflects being complete to some extent with a whole in it; expressing a lack of motivation to complete the term and the piece.
