Artist Statement
In today’s society the fine arts world is ever changing, and the ability to appreciate the arts is evolving rapidly. In my experiences it seems as though places like London are doing a far better job at art funding and media coverage than any major art city here in the states. My piece is a testament to the triumph of continuing to push the arts forward and the desire to support the creative mind. In creating this testament there was one very important aspect to understand and embody. Some might say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that may be true but we must also acknowledge that the eye of the beholders is already jaded by the imperfections of one’s own life. In order to fully see the beauty in life we have to embrace the imperfections and see them as unique components of a greater object. This piece works with the concept of imperfections and explores what happens when you allow yourself release your control over the need for perfection. By releasing this control we explore what evolves organically from the process. This piece is not a replication of a phone booth it is an interpretation of a symbolic icon that makes a statement about the emptiness that could fill the world if there was no art, while simultaneously acknowledging the importance of simplicity and materiality of an object.
