Abstract

Printed in 1698, A Short View of the Immorality and Profaneness of the English Stage served as a vessel for Jeremy Collier's less than complimentary view of English theater. The preface of the book is particularly of interest because it contextualizes the work that follows. In a book such as this, the author's voice is present on every page. The content vocalizes the author's argument in a direct manner; however, the preface takes the structure of the argument out and voices the author's motivation and direct opinions.
