Artist Statement

Personal and socio-political issues surrounding gender variance and inequality take center-stage in my work. As a young queer artist who has been rejected by their immediate family, using my own body as a model in my work is empowering. In the everyday life of a trans or gender nonconforming person, existence is a political act. Exclusion from family matters, cowards shouting abuse from car windows, and the terrifying actions of this country’s government to tamper with and remove our rights serve as daily reminders of my isolation. Through art, I wrestle with my internal doubts in, fears of, and deep misgivings with my physical being as it currently exists. By placing myself as a central figure in my art I defy those who would take away my rights or erase my existence, and I “look” the viewer in the eye as I do so.
